Privacy policy

crawls.in is a search engine for domain names. You do not need an account to use it and we do not ask who you are. This page says what we do record when you search, why, for how long, and who else is involved.

What we record when you search

• The search itself — the words you typed, the match mode and filters, how many results came back and how long the answer took.
• Your IP address — used to tell one visitor's typing from another's, to apply the fair-use limits, and to see which countries and networks the searches come from.
• Your browser's description (the user agent) and, when your browser sends it, the site that linked you here.
• A coarse location — country and city, taken from the network edge that serves the page or looked up from the IP address. Never a precise position.

These lines are kept in a log and summarised into usage statistics. We do not sell them, share them, or use them for advertising.

How long

Search records are kept for as long as the usage statistics need them, at most 24 months, after which they are deleted. Aggregated numbers (searches per day, per country, per mode) are kept indefinitely; they contain no addresses.

Cookies and third parties

• Google Analytics sets its cookies on the search page, the changelog and this site's information pages to count visits. You can block it with any content blocker; the search works without it.
• Cloudflare serves the site and the images and sees every request, under its own privacy policy.
• Screenshots are served from our image storage. Requesting one reveals your IP address to that storage provider, as any image on any site does.

crawls.in sets no cookie of its own. The view you choose (Simple, Filters, Pro) is remembered in your browser's local storage and never leaves it.

The screenshots and the domain names

The results are screenshots of publicly accessible websites, captured by our own crawler, together with public domain-name facts (which extensions a name is registered in, when it was captured, which platform the page uses). Personal data visible in a screenshot was published by the site's operator; see the terms for how to have a site removed.

Your rights

Write to [email protected] to ask what we hold that relates to an address you control, to have it deleted, or to have a site you operate removed from the results. We answer within 30 days.
